American Indian Philosophy Association

This is a web page in progress.   Please be patient. Press Reload, since things change.
Our organization is an association of professional philosophers who seek to encourage the thoughtful and careful articulation, study, and contemplation of philosophical issues that affect American Indigenous people and the communities to which we belong.  The members of A.I.P.A. include both professional working philosophers and students studying philosophy.   Our Mission Statement is as follows.

The American Indian Philosophy Association seeks to preserve and build upon the philosophical achievements of American Indians, in North, Central, and South America. As an association we presume self determination, community context, and support of public policy related to protection and continuation of Americas' Indigenous Peoples, our thought, and our cultures. In this context we support academic and community research projects, including programs to recruit participation in professional philosophical communities and encouragement of professional philosophers in Indigenous philosophical endeavors. We support American Indian philosophical conferences, programs of recruitment, networking to create access for American Indian philosophers and graduate students to schools, jobs, conference presentations, publications.  We support the development of community leaders who recognize the importance of philosophy to educational development and public policy.  We encourage all forms of thoughtful and careful philosophical study that will benefit America's Indigenous people and the field of American Indigenous Philosophy, including the sponsorship of efforts to integrate all aspects of historic Native philosophy into community contexts to explore their lessons for contemporary public policy.
