APA Member Services

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions should be directed to apaOnline@udel.edu.

Q. Do I have to be an APA member to use this site?
A. Yes.  Only APA members in good standing can view information located in the Member Services section of apaOnline.  Contact Janet Sample with questions about your membership status, or learn more about becoming a member.

Q.  How do I log in?
A.  If you have never logged into Member Services before, locate your Membership ID Number.  If you do not know your Membership ID Number, please contact Janet Sample.  If you do know your Membership ID Number, go to http://www.apa.udel.edu/apa/userlogon.asp and type your ID Number in BOTH the username and password fields.  Then click the button labled "Logon" to continue.  You will immediately be prompted to create a new username and password which you will use on all subsequent visits.  You will also be asked to supply your mother's maiden name for identity verification purposes if you ever forget your password in the future.

Q.  I forgot my password.   What do I do?
A.  There is an automated routine on apaOnline that will e-mail your password to you if you have forgotten it.  Please note that you must know your username and your mother's maiden name in order for the automation to work. The automation can be found here. If you do not remember your username, please contact Janet Sample (jsample@udel.edu) for assistance.

Q. I am a member in good standing, but I still can't log on.
A.  Check to see if your browser supports "cookies" (see list below).  If not, you will not be able to use the Member Services section of apaOnline. For a description of what cookies are, see below.

An Explanation of Cookies on apaOnline

The cookie for apaOnline is merely a random string of letters and numbers that the server assigns to you when you log in to Member Services or the JobSeeker Database.   The cookie is stored in a small temporary file on your local hard drive.  If we did not use cookies, you would be prompted for your username and password every single time you changed pages in the Member Services section, as each document is individually secured and requires a password for access.  The APA does not collect, compile, or analyze the contents of the cookie passed to your machine.  It is merely a random string of characters used as a tool to make your surfing experience more enjoyable while also allowing us to provide special benefits for members only.

As soon as you exit your browser or logout of JobSeeker the cookie is immediately erased from your hard drive.  The cookie is also erased if your browser remains idle for too long (approximately 20 minutes).  The next time you log in, the server assigns you a different random string of characters to be stored in your cookie.  If you have any concerns about cookies, you can frequently configure your browser to prompt you as cookies are being sent to you, giving you the power to choose whether to accept them or not.   See below for basic instructions regarding how to do this:

In Netscape Navigator: From the menu bar select "Edit | Preferences" then select the "Advanced" category.  Cookie options can be found in the lower half of the dialog box.

In Internet Explorer: From the menu bar select "View | Internet Options" then select the "Advanced" tab.  Scroll down until you find the "Cookies" sub-section under "Security."
