APA Committees

Call for Nominations 2008

COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS FOR 2008 ARE NOW OPEN (click here for nomination form)

Deadline for nominations extended to June 1, 2008
Deadline for materials extended to June 15, 2008

Nominations Invited for APA Committees

Dear APA Member:

Nominations, including self-nominations, are now in order and are more than welcome for positions on APA committees. The committee term for which nominations are sought begins July 1, 2009, and typically runs for three years thereafter. This is the third year in which we have set the deadline for nominations at May 1 in order to allow candidates to submit their materials before that general academic dispersion known as Summer.

We encourage you to get involved in the APA committees because they fulfill the national purposes of the APA and, in that capacity, they are responsive to the needs of APA members. The work of the committee members includes the development, planning, and supervision of a broad range of APA projects, such as prizes, awards, newsletters, sessions at divisional meetings, web resources, surveys, input to the APA Board of Officers, and in general, activities that help philosophers perform their professional duties as teachers and researchers.

All members of the APA, including graduate students, are eligible to serve as members or chairs of the APA's Committees, and the Board makes a special effort to create committees whose membership reflects the diversity of the profession.

Committee appointments will be made at the November 2008 meeting of the Board of Officers and announced soon thereafter. Committee Chairs may be appointed as Associate Chairs for one year before they serve full three-year terms as Chairs.

Instructions for nominations and a list of committee vacancies are given below. Please contact us with any questions you may have.

Additional information about the charge, current membership, and activities of each committee can be found at http://www.apa.udel.edu/apa/governance/committees/. You may also contact current committee chairs for further information.

I hope that you will think seriously about nominating persons you know who would serve willingly and effectively on APA committees. Please don't overlook the possibility that one of those persons is you. Strong, active committees help make a strong, active APA.

David E. Schrader
Executive Director
