from the National Office
Online Resource Center for
the Teaching of Philosophy:
Submissions Wanted!
On April 5 we added to the web site an Online
Resource Center for the Teaching of Philosophy. In its present incarnation it includes
a collection of syllabi and a collection of pedagogical reflections under the title
"What Works". We perhaps did not make it as clear as we should have that members
are invited and encouraged to contribute their own syllabi and reflections to these
collections. The National Office and the Teaching Committee do not have a monopoly on good
syllabi. We intended this as a collaborative project involving the membership; indeed, it
has to be that, if we are to develop a healthy supply of materials. A number of people
have filled out the members survey; a common reaction has been that this is an
excellent idea, but that there are not enough materials in the collections to make them
really useful. As things stand, this is quite correct. But the answer is: so give us
some more materials!! Submitting a syllabus or a "what works" comment is
very easy; just go to the Resource
Center and click on "Post a syllabus" or "Post an article", then
follow the instructions on the screen.
We apologize if we failed to explain this aspect of the
enterprise. In any case, we hope very much that you will respond to this call for syllabi
and pedagogical reflections, and that both collections will soon be much larger than they
are at present. Thanks for your interest.
