New Organization for High School Philosophy Founded

New Organization for High School Philosophy Founded

A new organization has been founded to nurture and promote philosophy in the secondary schools of North America has been founded. During our committee's session the APA Central Division Meeting in late April it was decided to create the North American High School Philosophers Association, and to invite teachers, students, administrators, university professors and others from Canada, Mexico and the United States to join.

No one at the founding meeting had any illusions about the challenges that inhere in building a robust international educational organization. But we considered the excitement we have all felt in our classrooms when philosophical inquiry is sparked, and the unique energies of the adolescent mind become fully engaged in thinking with rigor and passion. In light of this experience, and knowing that it is all too rare an occurrence on our continent, we felt the project was worth taking on with all of its attendant tasks.

There will be progress reports on this webpage during summer and into the fall. Please contact me if you would like to help with organizational efforts in the next few months.

Sincerely,

Ken Knisely
