LATIN AMERICAN THOUGHT


Most Recent Awardee: Roberto Toledo for "The Authenticity of Indigenous Rebellion in Mexico: Luis Villoro's Critique of Leopoldo Zea's Nationalism."

Summary

The APA Board of Officers and Committee on Hispanics are pleased to announce the new, annual "APA Prize in Latin American Thought." The purpose of this prize is to encourage fruitful work in Latin American thought. Eligible essays must contain original arguments and broach philosophical topics clearly related to the specific experiences of Hispanic Americans and Latinos.

Prize: $315.00

Recipient: The author of the best unpublished philosophical essay in Latin American thought.

Language: English.

Length: 3,000 words. Word count required with submission.

Publication The winning essay will be published in the APA Newsletter on Hispanic/Latino Issues in Philosophy.

Award Committee The recipient will be selected by members of the APA Committee on Hispanics.


Submission Procedures

Submission Requirements:

The essay must be previously unpublished (when it is submitted and at the time the prize is announced).

The author must be a member of the APA at the time of submission and awarding of the prize.

The author must accept publication in the Hispanics Newsletter.

The author must be neither a current nor a recent member of the Committee on Hispanics.

Members of the subcommittee involved in selecting the essays must abstain from evaluating essays with contents bearing 10% or more on the work of those members.

SUBMISSION MATERIALS: 4 copies of the essay, 4 abstracts (of no more than 200 words), and a title page with author's name, affiliation, contact email, title of essay, and word counts for the essay and abstract by June 5, 2008. These materials must be prepared for blind review. Include also a separate cover letter with a brief biographical statement.
