Schutz

Schutz Lecture

Summary

The Schutz Lecture is given on a topic on which the late Alfred Schutz wrote, especially the philosophy of history and philosophy of the social sciences. Beginning in 1995, the APA has combined its award with others offered by the Society for Phenomenology and the Human Sciences (SPHS) and the Council for Advanced Research in Phenomenology (CARP) to create an annual Lecture. The Alfred Schutz Memorial Lecture is given each year at the annual meeting of SPHS, which is held in October or November in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP). The awarded work will be published in Human Studies.

Process: The Schutz Lecturer is selected by a committee appointed by the Chair of the APA's Committee on Lectures, Publications, and Research, in consultation with LPR committee members, as well as representatives of SPHS and CARP.
