Digital Specifications:

  • Refer to our Digital Specifications Guide for detailed how-to instructions on configuring your program settings to match our printer's production requirements.

  • Submit all ads in pdf format. NOTE: This is the only format we accept.

  • Use Adobe Distiller 4.0-6.0 to convert your ads to pdf format. NOTE: Make sure that your Distiller job options are set according to the specifications in our Digital Specifications Guide. Especially ensure that the compatibility option under the General tab is set to make Acrobat 4.0 (PDF 1.3) pdfs.

  • Submit all ads in black and white.

  • Ensure that all images and photos in your ads are at least 300 dpi. Do not include low resolution image formats, such as jpegs and gifs. Embed only high resolution images in your ads.

  • Make all images and photos in your ads grayscale.

  • Do not attach ICC Profiles or OPI color management to your ads. Pdfs will not contain OPI if the Distiller Job options specified in our Digital Specifications Guide are used.

  • True Type fonts can only be used in your ads if the PC virtual printer TrueType output criteria is set correctly. But to avoid potential problems with printing, it's best to avoid including them in your ads.

  • Configure your layout program's printer styles to match the settings in our Digital Specifications Guide. NOTE: Instructions and screen shots for both Quark and In Design are coming soon.

  • For additional information on prepping your ads for our publications, please email Erin Shepherd, APA Publications Coordinator, or contact our printer The Sheridan Press.
