The Institute for Formal Ontology and Medical Information Science (http://ifomis.org) seeks applicants for a post-doctoral research position under the auspices of a European Union Integrated Project on Cancer Informatics with duties relating to the construction of a high-level ontology for the cancer domain. Work on the project, which is carried out in English, is highly collaborative. The successful candidate will have expertise in at least two of the following areas: formal ontology, logic, philosophy of biology, computer science, medicine, biology. The professorship will be held in the Faculty of Law and is attached to a non-stipendiary fellowship at Balliol College. The professor will be expected to engage in research and to lecture and give instruction in the philosophy of law. The successful candidate will have a philosophical interest in law of a kind that could be shared with philosophers as well as lawyers. He or she will have an outstanding record of research and publication and extensive experience of giving lectures, leading seminars and classes, and supervising higher-level research.
