Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure-track, academic year Assistant or Associate Professorship in environmental ethics and philosophy. This will be a joint appointment: 75% in the Lyman Briggs School of Science (LBS; in the College of Natural Science) and 25% in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife (FW; in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources). This position is part of an expanding university-wide program in environmental studies and policy. The successful candidate will teach three undergraduate courses on topics in the philosophy of science, technology, and the environment, and a joint (LBS, FW) upper-level undergraduate / graduate course in environmental ethics and philosophy. We seek a distinguished, active scholar in moral philosophy, social philosophy, political philosophy, applied ethics, professional ethics, international justice, or related fields, who will be able build and sustain a major interdisciplinary initiative encompassing all areas of ethics and its application to public life. The individual would hold a 50% appointment as Director of the Center, reporting to the Provost, and a 50% appointment as a member of the faculty in Philosophy or another relevant academic department or departments. A Director will need to work effectively with executive officers, deans, faculty, students, staff, and alumni to promote and enhance the University of Michigan's standing as a leading contributor to public discourse on ethical concerns. AOC: Contemporary Metaphysics, Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, Applied Ethics (including ethical issues in science, technology, medicine.) We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, creative, collegial, and broadly-trained philosopher who would be deeply committed to continuing our tradition of providing WVU undergraduates with a liberal arts college experience, on the main campus of the largest state university in West Virginia. We are especially interested in hiring someone who has experience and interest in pursuing external funding for research on ethical issues in science, technology, and medicine. We are also interested in hiring someone who can work cooperatively, by offering some courses in philosophical theology, for WVU's Program for Religious Studies.
