Call for Submissions

An upcoming issue of the Newsletter will feature a special section on women’s human rights. If you have a short article on any aspect of women’s human rights, please send it electronically to the editor. Please prepare the essay for blind review and include a cover letter in the e-mail.

Nominations and Applications Sought:

Editor of the APA Newsletter on Feminism and Philosophy

The APA Committee on the Status of Women solicits nominations and applications for the position of editor of the APA Newsletter on Feminism and Philosophy, which the Committee sponsors.

The editor’s term will be for five years, beginning in the Fall of 2008 with the editorial responsibilities for the Spring 2009 issue of the Newsletter. We welcome applications and nominations for individuals or editorial teams.

Responsibilities of the editor include:

  • issuing calls for papers;
  • soliciting articles for special topic issues;
  • coordinating the anonymous peer review process for articles submitted to the Newsletter;
  • accepting or rejecting articles submitted, based on the comments of reviewers;
  • soliciting book reviews for publication;
  • editing articles, book reviews, and other materials accepted for publication in the Newsletter;
  • meeting deadlines (Feb 1 and July 2 each year) and following APA style and format requirements for two issues of the Newsletter each year, including those issues that include guest edited material;
  • delivering to the APA completely edited electronic issues of the Newsletter for publication in the Fall and Spring terms of each year;
  • responding to correspondence;
  • serving as ex officio member of the APA Committee on the Status of Women, which serves as the Editorial Board for the Newsletter on Feminism and Philosophy, and fulfilling committee duties as determined;
  • sending two copies of published book reviews to publishers;
  • sending notification to authors of online publication of each issue and/or a CD-Rom for authors’ use in creating off-prints;
  • notifying authors of books when their book has been reviewed in the Newsletter;
  • other standard editorial duties and occasional CSW duties.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in philosophy and membership in The American Philosophical Association; commitment to giving expression to the diversity within feminist philosophy; excellent organizational skills; editorial skills, editorial experience strongly preferred.

The Committee on the Status of Women welcomes applications from interested individuals or editorial teams. We will also accept nominations for the position. Please send full contact information including email and mailing addresses for all individuals nominated to the chair of the APA Committee on the Status of Women (address below), who will solicit applications from people so nominated.

Applications should include

1. Cover letter which describes the applicant’s ability to satisfy the job description, with respect to (a) individual qualifications and experience; and (b) obtaining needed levels of institutional support, (e.g., absorption of some mailing, phone, and duplicating expenses); reasons for wanting to take the position; and vision of future directions for the Newsletter.

2. Curriculum Vitae.

3. Names of and contact information for at least three individuals who can speak to the applicant’s editorial experience and/or skills.

Applications for editorial teams should include the above plus a letter of application that indicates how the work of editing the Newsletter will be shared.

Deadline for receipt of nominations: November 1, 2007.

Deadline for receipt of applications: December 1, 2007.
